MAPS&ADAS and Public Authorities support new eSafety working group

The MAPS&ADAS Public Authorities Consultation Platform held its second meeting on 1st June 2005 in Hannover with public authority representatives from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, France and UK and MASP&ADAS consortium members NAVTEQ, TELEATLAS, University of Hannover and ERTICO.

Main discussions were focussed on MAPS&ADAS activities related to safety attributes to be integrated into ADAS maps. Starting with the presentation of the top 8 safety attributes by Kees Wevers, inventory survey activities to be carried out with local/national authorities were described by Stephen T'Siobbel. Karsten Heinig presented the specific issues related to accident data with regards to the HotSpot function, part of the Driver Warning System developed within MAPS&ADAS. Then the important issue of certification of safety attributes was discussed on the basis of draft results presented by Paul Kompfner from an internal questionnaire about automotive industry needs in terms of data certification.

Norwegian public authorities represented by Trond Hovland and Harald Wethal gave an overview of the cost/benefit analysis of the national road database with promising figures on concrete financial benefits.

Finally Yiannis Moissidis introduced the eSafety Digital Maps Working Group and the interaction with MAPS&ADAS activities, and invited all participants to join the Plenary meeting organised on 1st July 2005 in Brussels.
