Strong interest in enhanced digital maps

The ADASIS Forumís 2006 General Assembly on 14 June in Brussels saw leading players within the European automotive industry displaying a strong interest in the ADAS Horizon concept. The event confirmed the potential benefits of using digital maps as a predictive sensor to enable or enhance Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) applications. A large number of Forum Members were present, including vehicle manufacturers, ADAS suppliers, map providers and navigation system suppliers.

ADAS Horizon is a standardised interface that makes it possible for ADAS applications to access safety-enhanced digital maps, thereby extending the driverís view at least 500 to 1000 metres ahead.

The seven new members who joined the ADASIS Forum in the course of the last 12 months - Scania, Autoliv, Mitsubishi Electric Europe, Nissan, Visteon, Intermap and Aisin AW Ė received a warm welcome. Participants were presented with the final results of the ADAS Interface development, test and validation activities carried out within the MAPS&ADAS project, a subproject of the Integrated Project PReVENT. Other ADAS interface implementation activities were also presented, including the results of the PReVENT SAFELANE and IVSS SOLVI projects as well as the BMW Dynamic Pass Prediction application.

Working Group leaders gave a presentation of the various ADASIS Forum activities, and Axel Varchmin from Blaupunkt introduced the New Feature Group, aimed at keeping ADAS Interface specifications up to date. Further discussions addressed the exploitation of MAPS&ADAS results, dissemination activities planned at the 2006 ITS World Congress in London and the plans to organise a second Demonstration Day by the end of 2006.

The ADASIS Forum is a self-funded industry initiative launched in 2002 and coordinated by ERTICO, aiming to support and promote the development and implementation of a standardised interface between ADAS applications and digital map content. The Forum has 30 members and is continuously growing.
