SAFELANE


The SAFELANE is developping a lane keeping support system that operates safely and reliably in a wide range of adverse road and driving situations. If an unintentional lane departure is detected, an adaptive decision system triggers a driver warning or active steering system.

 

 

The flexible and modular approach of SAFELANE will be demonstrated in commercial and passenger vehicles on test tracks, motorways and rural roads. SAFELANE will utilize camera, digital map databases  and optionally forward looking active sensors (e.g. radar/lidar/laser).

 

 

 

Objectives

SAFELANE is developing, testing and validating the technology for a safe, reliable, highly available, acceptable and legally admissible on-board lane keeping support system for use in commercial and passenger vehicles on motorways and rural roads.

 

 

Key Concepts

 

SAFELANE development is based on the following key concepts:

  • Fusion of camera-based lane detection with enhanced digital map data and precise vehicle trajectory calculation
  • Adaptive and model-based decision system for situation understanding and advanced self-assessment
  • Active steering component for haptic feedback and correction of steering

 

Application of Results

The demonstrators contain the relevant sensor, actuator and decision components developed or adapted in the project. The equipped vehicles serve for test and validation purposes and will be used for testing the functionality and performance of the developed system and for evaluation of the driver acceptance of the human-machine-interface.

 

SAFELANE will also participate in the IP PReVENT roadshow. The validation vehicles — two trucks and a passenger car — equipped with the lane keeping support system will demonstrate the quality of the lane keeping support developed in SAFELANE.

Events and Milestones

 

SAFELANE comprises of five subworkpackages, of which the technically ones are organised in subsequent temporal phases. Each of the subworkpackages is concluded by a milestone.
