AIDE - Integrated Adaptive Human Machine Interface

Part of the EUCAR Integrated Safety Programme, the AIDE Integrated Project plans to design, develop and validate a generic Adaptive Integrated Driver-vehicle Interface (AIDE) that maximises the efficiency of individual and combined advanced driver assistance systems, reduces the level of workload and distraction and enables the potential benefits of new in-vehicle technologies and nomad devices

EASIS - Electronic Architecture Safety Systems

The European Commission's Transport Policy for 2010 sets new targets with respect to road safety. These targets can only be reached by an integrated approach for vehicle safety systems, i.e. the combination of active and passive safety systems where actions will address all phases of a crash, including pre-crash and post-crash. From a technical point of view, today’s safety systems are mostly stand-alone systems with a limited degree of interdependencies. These systems have to be integrated - combined with upcoming enhanced Telematics services - into a complete network of so-called Integrated Safety Systems. For the realisation of such Integrated Safety Systems, a powerful and highly dependable in-vehicle electronic architecture and an appropriate development support is mandatory. Those elements which are not competitive relevant for OEMs and suppliers have to be standardised to achieve an improvement of system quality at shorter development times and lower system costs.

GST - Global System for Telematics enabling On-line Safety Services

The vision of GST is that all future vehicles will be equipped with various communication means to interact with each other and their environment based on a common architecture and standard interfaces. Drivers and occupants will be able to rely on an on-board, integrated telematics system to access a dynamic offer of on-line safety, efficiency and comfort-enhancing services wherever they drive in Europe.

The in-vehicle telematics units will also act as an enabler for autonomous applications, allowing the updating of on-board information to improve the accuracy and reliability of on-board safety-critical applications.

To achieve this vision, GST will create an open and standardised framework architecture for end-to-end telematics. The openness relates to the ability of the architecture to support (multiple) existing and new bearers and protocols as well as common mechanisms for the removal, updating and installation of new services and applications. Standards are necessary for the key interfaces allowing hiding the complexity and heterogeneousness of the supporting technologies.

APROSYS - Advanced PROtection Systems

In addition to the DG Information Society projects, the DG TREN APROSYS Integrated Project (IP) aims to offer a significant contribution to the reduction of road victims in Europe. Its general objective is the development and introduction of critical technologies that improve passive safety for all European road users in all-relevant accident types and accident severities.

APROSYS is therefore mobilising and integrating the necessary European scientific and technological expertise for the development of new technologies for the protection of road users in all relevant accident conditions. It salso aims to increase the level of competitiveness of the European industry by developing new safety technologies (safety is a proven selling point) and by developing design tools (CAD) and evaluation methods that will increase the efficiency of the development process of the involved industries.

Other Relevant Projects

CarTalk2000

This European project is focusing on new driver assistance systems which are based upon inter-vehicle communication. The main objectives are the development of co-operative driver assistance systems and the development of a self-organising ad-hoc radio network as a communication basis with the aim of preparing a future standard.

Safety In Motion
The main objective of SIM is to develop an innovative vehicle with new active, preventive and passive safety devices that will result in the decreasing of the number of powered two-wheelers (PTWs) accidents and related consequences for PTW riders (injuries and deaths).
