Special Session 20 : IP Prevent Preventive and Active Safety Applications
Main PReVENT Session
Wednesday, Nov 9 / 08:30-10:00 / room 130
Coordinator of the session: Maxime Flament (ERTICO)
Session Description The Integrated Project PReVENT is a European automotive industry activity, co-funded by the European Commission to contribute to road safety by developing and demonstrating preventive safety applications and technologies. Preventive and active safety makes use of sensor data, communication, map and positioning technologies in order to provide solutions to help the drivers to maintain a safe speed and keep a safe distance, drive within the lane and overtake, safely pass intersections, and mitigate the severity of a collision for the passengers and any vulnerable road users. This special session will present the preliminary results of the functional and cross-functional activities taking place within the IP PReVENT and the plans to bring the different preventive and active safety applications on an integrated platform.
Invited moderator: Fabrizio Minarini, EC DG INFSO, Belgium
Agenda:
o The PReVENT Project Setting the scene at EU Level (Fabrizio Minarini, EC DG INFSO, Belgium)

Special Session 27 : ADAS Horizon - how digital maps can contribute to road Safety
MAPS&ADAS session Wednesday, Nov 9 / 13:30-15:00 / room 133
Coordinator of the session: Vincent Blervaque (ERTICO)
Session Description Digital maps have large potential for road safety to enhance or enable preventive and active safety applications by extending driver horizon. As a predictive sensor called ADAS Horizon, the in-vehicle digital map is an important source of information providing look-ahead capability for ADAS applications and providing further information for on-board sensors to classify and detect obstacles. This session will first report on results from the EC project MAPS&ADAS, part of PReVENT Integrated Project, dedicated to the development of a standardised interface between ADAS applications and in-vehicle map database and also the collection, certification and update of safety content for ADAS digital maps. Then the session will open the discussion on standardisation issues, the potential benefits of using maps to improve road safety and the relevant activities carried out in North America and Japan.
Invited moderator: Yiannis Moissidis, NAVTEQ Europe BV
Agenda:
o ADAS Horizon MAPS&ADAS and ADASIS Forum activities, Vincent Blervaque (ERTICO)

Special Session 49 : Integrated Lateral Support - IP PReVENT's Approach
LATERAL SAFE and SAFELANE session Thursday, Nov 10 / 10:30-12:00 / room 133
Coordinator of the session: Angelos Amditis (ICCS)
Session Description The Integrated Project PReVENT's (EC co-funded project under the 6th FW-IST programme) challenging, integrated and holistic safety approach considers all relevant components (sensors, actuators, control algorithms, system integration) in all fields of preventive and active safety systems. The systems are based on advanced sensors (fusion of radar, infrared, far infrared, computer vision, to provide the required robustness, performance, and reliability) and communication systems as well as on highly dependable software and interfaces. This session on integrated lateral control has a twofold goal: on one hand to present state-of-the-art systems that provide Lateral support and lane-keeping support in difficult road and driving conditions, prevention of lateral/rear accidents and assistance in adverse or low visibility conditions; on the other hand, to present future activities and initiate the discussions on integrated lateral and longitudinal function, thus creating a virtual safety belt around the vehicle.
Moderator: Angelos Amditis (ICCS-GR)
Agenda:
o The LATERAL SAFE Approach: Supporting the driver in lateral and rear areas - Uwe Kaiser – Dieckhoff (BOSCH-D)
Download
o Integrated Lateral Control : the SAFELANE Approach – Achim Beutner (VOLVO TECH-D)
Download
o Integrating Lateral and Longitudinal functions: Towards an all around the vehicle virtual safety belt – Angelos Amditis (ICCS-GR)

o Blind Spots systems and future market trends: From BLIS to PReVENT and LATERAL SAFE – Henrik Lind (VOLVO CARS-S)
Download
o Integrated Lateral and Longitudinal Vehicle Control – Said Mammar (Un. of Evry, FR)
