Consortium partnership

The IP PReVENT consortium is composed of 52 partners from Automotive OEMs, suppliers, research institutes, public authorities and associations. The roles of the partners can be explained as follows:  

Automotive OEMs

The major contributions from the OEMs are in the strategic guidance on Integrated Project and subproject level, driving the integration of safety applications and their components to reduce the cost and enhance the safety potential of the products. The primary task of the automotive OEM partners in the IP PReVENT consortium is to ensure the correct requirements for novel safety-related applications, develop architectures and specifications in cooperation with suppliers, as well as build up the test vehicles.  

Automotive Suppliers

The suppliers’ role in IP PReVENT is to develop specifications for safety systems and components in cooperation with the automotive OEMs. Supplying partners will bring in hard- and software platforms and develop new platforms that satisfy the application requirements. Another important role of the suppliers in subprojects is the provision of prototypes for hard- and software components such as sensors, actuators and image interpretation algorithms. Suppliers are furthermore represented in the Core Group and in subproject leader positions to contribute to the strategic guidance of the overall project.  

Research institutes and universities

The role of the research institutes and universities is to focus on specific tasks in order to derive innovative solutions in a few key areas. In most cases, research institutes and universities will base their contribution on studies that establish state-of-the-art in regards of fields of research. The experts are using new or existing hard- and software platforms in regards to image modelling and processing, which will be further developed to suit new requirements. Further important contributions are in the areas of simulation testing, system validation, human machine interface design and impact assessment for which specific methodologies or competences are required.   

Public and road authorities

Public and road authorities have a specific interest in IP PReVENT due to its integrative character, and are monitoring the project with the intent to safeguard the safety focus of the project and its priorities. Where appropriate, the authorities bring in specific requirements regarding infrastructure, regulations and other deployment and implementation topics. The authorities furthermore provide unique links and information on national research activities, especially where the research is strongly linked to policy. The authorities and the national research activities are involved through regular consultation in dedicated workshops organised by IP PReVENT, and it is also expected that they will be strongly involved in the organisation of the IP PReVENT Roadshow.   

Associations

The successful cooperation of the European associations EUCAR (the research component from the European Vehicle Manufacturers Association ACEA), CLEPA (automotive suppliers community) and ERTICO (ITS community) has been responsible for the realisation of IP PReVENT, allowing each organisation to guide and motivate its individual members to contribute to the project. The associations have set up a steering committee in the so-called Integrated Safety Programme in which progress from research initiatives such as IP PReVENT are monitored and supported. Another important contribution from the associations is the provision of key technical and organisational management in the Integrated Project Management team.
