A local danger warning system deployable in real road-traffic scenarios and based on radio communication requires a specialized set of networking features, which reflects the highly dynamic environments envisioned. In this report, the following contributions to the development of a suitable communication subsystem
solution to the WILLWARN project scenarios are provided:
- A review of requirements and challenges for the design of networking mechanisms are presented;
- The main aspects influencing the design space of such mechanisms are discussed with respect to the system’s requirements;
- A solution is proposed which includes functions tailored to the specific needs of sending and receiving warning messages to/from roadside infrastructure or vehicles.
