Abstract
Since navigation systems are increasingly entering the vehicle, the available map data may not only be used for routing purposes but also to support other in-vehicle sub-systems. The area of potential applications reaches from driver information and warning systems up-to comfort and active safety applications. Ford Research & Advanced Engineering has developed a prototype system that supports the vehicle with enhanced map data for the road ahead, the so-called "Electronic Horizon". The interface between digital map data and supported applications is based on an upcoming European industry standard developed by the "ADASIS Forum"
